What is the Skills for Life Program?

As a resident of Burlington Housing Authority's public housing developments, you and your family are eligible for FREE services. BHA is proud to offer its Skills for Life Program and may be of assistance to you if you reside at Franklin Square, Riverside or Hillside Terrace Apartments!

How can Skills for Life assist me?

We employ a full-time, Skills for Life Case Manager, Malaika DosRemedios, who is available to assist you with navigating needed resources in the community and is there to assist you with breaking barriers with employment, education and economic issues.

What does a Skills for Life Case manager do?

In an office and home-visit setting:

• Life-skills training for youth and adults
• Assists residents with obtaining great credit counseling and utilization of the Section 8 mortgage assistance program
• Connects residents with community resources and services
• Acts as a liaison between residents and their needs being addressed
• Assists residents to open bank accounts and other forms of financial accounts
• Connects residents with quality and productive credit counseling
• Assists residents with the road to Homeownership
• Goal setting
• Mentoring
• Career advancement and planning programs
• Money Management education
• Referral services
• Fun Community Programming ex. Planning potlucks, educational programming and book clubs to name a few.
• Provides crisis intervention
• Acts as a liaison between residents, managers and other BHA staff
• Post-employment follow-up
• Assistance with real life issues such as tax forms, car insurance, health insurance, food stamp issues, voter registration, school issues etc.
